Yesterday 5/30 Tomorrow 6/1

Yesterday we went to the Carnegie Library in Oakland, I had checked out two books, however I did check out two other books to help me on my graduation project for school. All books are on the history of hockey.

Tomorrow, we discussed that I will not be at school due to the death in the family, so let me know what we are doing so I can make the work up

Class Work 5/15 - 5/18

For the past three days I have been working on my webliography, so far I completed it, and it did take me a while because some of the websites I intended on using at first were not going to work for my project at this time, but I found more to help me out.

My webliogrpahy ended up being about 7 pages long double spaced and I talked alot about the web sites and how they will help me with my graduation project.

I'm sorry for not updating on yesterdays blog but since I summed up three days of completing a webliography, well heres the blog.

Graduation Project meets Photo Shop

The picture that i made in photo shop to the left is NHL Diversity and each picture represents diversity and equal oppertunity.

There are three NHL players in my picture and they are; Georges Laraque from Pittsburgh, Anson Carter from Vancouver and Kevin Weekes from New York.

Following that; there are two Hockey in the Hood pictures one with just the kids and one with Coach Howard; his wife and three kids on the team.

That is what i did today in Graduation class

Letter of intent

5/4/2007

Today I just finished up my letter of intent, I think it's constructed with very bright ideas about my project and I am satisfied with what I want to do for my project.

Also I am now doing a photo shop picture of my project, it will consist of Hockey in the Hood, the NHL and Diversity.

Yesterday's work from 5/3/07

So basically as you saw in my previous post about what i want to do for my project is how diversity impacts our youth and to support my project I am going to use is Hockey in the Hood and the reason why i used that is because that is our main focus at Hockey in the Hood and the NHL supports that along with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

As you read in my detailed entry from yesterday, you will find very interesting ideas that sparked me for what i am going to do for my graduation project.

Lastly I picked about 4-5 different websites to use as a beggining resource for my project, along with that i wrote a letter of intent to Mrs Fossum for what i am going to do for my project.

Three Websites

The three web sites I decided to pick are:
1. http://www.hockeyinthehood.com/
2. http://www.nhl.com/nhlhq/community/diversity.html
3. http://www.infoplease.com/spot/bhmhockey1.html
4. http://www.georgeslaraque.com/#

Yesterday's work

So yesterday May 2nd, 2007; we had two guest speakers come in from 12th grade. Mimi and Alicia came in and talked to us about their expierences from the graduation projects and what all occurred during the projects.

What I learned was that you shouldnt procrastinate, you need to make use of your time wisely. One of the things i jotted down as an idea for my own porject was to interview my coach, bring evidence to support my project i.e. trophies; awards; accomplisments, and finally to dress professionally.

These are just a few ideas on what I am going to do for my project but one of my main things I will do is to do an "on ice" inter view with my coach and other coaches i had from hockey in the hood.

This should work out perfectly and smoothly because of a few things:
1. The ice time is free, every tuesday and saturday for "Hockey in the Hood" and this is great because usually it costs money to be on the ice for an hour.

2. My coach; Howard Smith has connections with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Hockey night in Canada, and other operations in connection to hockey in the hood.

3. I have alot of resources; Marcus Day in 12th grade also participates in "Hockey in the Hood."

4. If things work out as planned and I am to present third trimester like scheduled next year, I can possibly bring some kids in for my project and show how it's taught them to be mature; better people.

5. Finally a key thing is the Detroit Tournament in February, what that means is that we travel up to Detroit to play in a tournament from training since October.

This project should turn out bitter sweet and I can't wait to get a jump on it

First Day of May

So yesterday we didn't have really any class because of the PSSA Science and ACT registration that took almost all morning. How ever we did have about 20 minutes to hear from a group of students about what they did for their graduation projects and how they over came challenges.

This benefitted me because I learned about many new things such as time management, writting a ten page paper on just your topic and not your project. Also it was a good opening idea on how in depth these projects can get and how you should present your projects.
